"Why America's Veterans Should Be Honored"   By: Andrew V. Molina

American soldiers all throughout history have sacrificed their time and risked their lives just for the well-being of their country.  They have given so much to our nation, and should be honored and loved by the American people.  When these veterans served, they had to endure many hardships wherever and whenever they severed.  Our military is recognized all over the world as defenders of freedom and peace.  We have gained so much because of the selflessness of our veterans.

"These are the times that try men's souls.  The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he who stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of men and women."  Thomas Paine wrote these words in December 1776 as the Revolutionary War was at its darkest moments.  Throughout history, our soldiers have left their homes and families for places as near as Valley Forge and as distant as Iraq.  Soldiers have had to live and fight in conditions that were almost unbearable, but through it all, they persevered and stood strong.

Our military is recognized all around the world as defenders of freedom and peace.  In World War II, the U.S. armed forces fought in Europe against Nazism.  During this same period of time, our soldiers fought the Japanese because they unlawfully invaded large portions of Asia.  In the Korean and Vietnamese wars, we fought for the freedoms of the people against communism.  The American military doesn't just fight for our nation, but for world peace.

We have gained many things from the selflessness of our soldiers.  They have protected our liberty and all the freedoms we take for granted.  They fight around the world so that we can feel safe and secure in our own country.  Soldiers also help us keep alliances with other countries strong.  Most od all, though, they give us heroes that we can look up to, role models children will strive to emulate.

Soldiers have risked their lives, enduring hardships wherever they have fought.  Our veterans today were these brave soldiers of yesterday.  Because of the selflessness of our armed forces, the entire world has benefited.  These heroes have given so much to our nation, and should be honored by the American people, for upon them our nation has been built.
